Viewers have reacted in disbelief to the latest episode of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway after a contestant won a £5,000 gift voucher to Moonpig.

Moonpig is best known as a greeting card company, a fact which left many fans baffled as to how such a large amount of credit could possibly be spent.

During last night’s (6 March) episode of the hit ITV reality series, host Ant McPartlin revealed a haul of prizes to one of the show’s lucky guests.

The voucher to Moonpig was included alongside toothpaste, a year’s supply of Jaffa Cakes, a subscription to streaming service Disney Plus and two holidays.

“Moonpig” began trending on Twitter in the UK following the episode, with viewers joking about the bizarreness of the gift.

“Five grand?!? to spend at Moonpig?!?” One viewer wrote. “‘Yes, here’s a card for waking up this morning. Oh, here’s a card for putting on your shoes’.”

“How gutted would you be to win £5k and it all to be locked up in greeting cards,” wrote another.

Comedian Kathrine Ryan pointed out that the company also sells other non-greeting card items, perhaps making the gift voucher a more appetising prospect.

“Not my place to jump in,” she wrote, “but #Moonpig honestly have gifts, toys, alcohol, chocolate, craft beer, flowers, over 18 things, funny stuff....not just cards!”

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway airs on ITV every Saturday.
