Matt Damon plays David Cameron in Saturday Night Live Brexit sketch

Saturday Night Live brought in Kate McKinnon and Matt Damon for a sketch lampooning Theresa May and her Brexit strife.

The sketch, titled "Merry Christmas, Britain!", begins with McKinnon's May taking the stage with the aid of her now infamous dance moves from her speech at the Conservative Party conference earlier this year, accompanied by a troupe of dancing policeman.

She opens her speech with: "What a dreadful week it's been. My Brexit deal is falling apart, I almost got voted out and no one in the world likes me at all. But it's still Christmas so let's try to have some cheer tonight, shall we?"

May then welcomes Damon's David Cameron to the stage, who has returned from a vacation in the Maldives.

Cameron tells May: “You know what’s funny? People hate me but they really hate you. Even though I did Brexit. I mean you’ve got to laugh.”

After a delivery of presents from Elton John, May soon discovers that every gift is simply filled with "faeces". She then brings on the one person in the country "more reviled than me", Voldemort.

Saturday Night Live's holiday edition also began with a sketch that imagined a world in which Donald Trump had never become president.

The sketch, titled "It's a Wonderful Trump", served as the show's cold opening, and begins with Alec Baldwin's Trump being visited by his guardian angel Clarence, played by Kenan Thompson.

"Sometimes I wish I had never been president," a frustrated Trump says, before Clarence shows him what the world would look like if Hillary Clinton had won the election.
