From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Season 42 of Saturday Night Live has been a ratings hit, millions tuning each week in to watch the cast skew Donald Trump’s administration.
Notably, Alec Baldwin has played the current President multiple times, seemingly wearing increasing amounts of orange make-up as the season progressed.
For the finale, Baldwin returned as the controversial leader, playing the Leonard Cohen‘s ‘Hallelujah’ on piano alongside multiple other cast members dressed as political figures.
Kate McKinnon appeared as Kellyanne Conway, Cecily Strong as Melania Trump, and even The Grim Reaper as Steve Bannon.
Scarlett Johannson also reprised her role as the President’s daughter Ivanka, the original portrayal poking fun at the complicit author.
“I’m not giving up because I didn’t do anything wrong,” joked Baldwin’s Trump. “But I can’t say the same for these people.” Watch the full sketch below.
Leonard Cohen‘s ‘Hallelujah’ was last sung on SNL after Trump's victory over Hilary Clinton was first revealed, McKinnon having played the song as Clinton.
Last night's episode was hosted by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who — during the opening monologue — announced that he’ll be running for President in 2020 alongside the perfect running mate: Tom Hanks.
