Saturday Night Live: Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump kisses Putin as Hillary Clinton email scandal mocked

'None of this will have mattered if you don’t vote'

Since returning for its 42nd season, Saturday Night Live has opened every week with a sketch poking fun at the current Presidential candidates: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of the Republican candidate has even elicited a response from Trump, who called the actor ‘boring and unfunny’ on Twitter.

With the last Saturday before the election having past, the show spoofed the pair once more, attention this time on Clinton’s recent email scandal.

In the sketch, CNN presenter Erin Burnett - played by Cecily Strong - keeps the conversation focussed on Kate McKinnon’s Clinton despite Baldwin’s Trump kissing numerous controversial figures, including the FBI, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and a hooded member of the Ku Klux Klan.

“Erin, he kissed Putin on live TV,” implores Clinton, to which the news anchor replies: “Secretary, that could mean anything. Let’s get back to your emails.”

Towards the end of the sketch, things took on a surprisingly uplifting turn as Baldwin broke character to say “I’m sorry, Kate, I just hate yelling all this stuff at you like this,” before running outside the studio to Times Square, hand-in-hand with his running partner.

When back in the studio, the two then implored the audience: “Now it’s time to get out there and vote. None of this will have mattered if you don’t vote.”

“And we can’t tell you who to vote for but on Tuesday we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in.”

Hosting the show was Benedict Cumberbatch, who was promoting his most recent film Doctor Strange, while the musical guest was Solange.

Meanwhile, an SNL special will air this Monday - the SNL Election Special - featuring all this season’s Trump/Clinton sketches, plus previous appearances by the pair.
