From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Saturday Night Live returned with a bang last night as British actor Felicity Jones hosted the show's debut 2017 episode.

As expected, Alec Baldwin donned orange makeup and blonde wig to impersonate President-elect Donald Trump once more.

Mocking one of the biggest news stories of the week - Trump’s disastrous first press conference since being elected - Baldwin’s Trump stood upon a podium and took multiple questions from ‘reporters’.

Of course, the cast of SNL couldn’t help themselves, taking the piss out of Trump over those infamous unconfirmed allegations concerning Russian buffoonery.

“Hey, ABC News, I’d like to ask you about your big Russian pee pee party,” asks the first reporter, to which Baldwin’s character gets very defensive, reiterating how it never happened.

“I don’t want to talk about the pee pee,” responds fake-Trump. “I want to talk about jobs. I am going to bring back a thick stream of jobs to this country. This country will literally be showered with jobs. Because I’m a major wiz at jobs.”

Following a few more urine jokes, Baldwin’s Trump moves on to Ben Carson, Buzzfeed (“You’re a failing pile of garbage, I took your quiz yesterday and I’ll tell you right now I’m not a Joey, I’m a Rachel”) and his inauguration line-up. Watch the full segment below.

Recently, Trump has been defending himself from allegations presented in a ‘Russian dossier’, something that has dominated headlines over the last week.

His inauguration line-up has also been finalised, with 3 Doors Down - along with other names - accepting the offer.
