With Nip/Tuck and Glee under his belt, he currently has three properties doing the rounds - anthology shows American Horror/Crime Story and teen friendly horror-comedy Scream Queens - all well-liked by critics and audiences alike.
It turns out he's making another one.
Fresh from focusing on a real-life Hollywood story in American Crime Story's debut season, The People v. O.J. Simpson, Murphy has set his sights on another notorious tale from yesteryear - this one concerned with the lifelong feud between actors Joan Crawford and Bette Davis.
Titled Feud, the new anthology series has garnered quite the cast with American Horror Story alum Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon rising to the challenge as the cinematic icons.
Crawford and Davis locked heads while filming Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), the high-profile story of which contributed to the film's box office and ensuing awards success; while failing to score an Oscar nomination for her role of Blanche Hudson, Crawford famously accepted the Best Actress award on behalf of Anne Bancroft (for her role in The Miracle Worker) despite this meaning her co-star Davis hadn't won.
Alfred Molina, Stanley Tucci and Judy Davis will also feature in the series that is set to be produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment,
The follow-up season to Murphy's American Crime Story will focus on Hurricane Katrina while the theme of American Horror Story season six is yet to be revealed.
Alongside his producing partner Brad Falchuk, Murphy will also bring fans a second helping of Scream Queens which stars Emma Roberts and Jamie Lee Curtis.
