The sitcom writer revealed on social media that he regularly leaves lists which include improbable, strange or non-existent items such as “shrew polish”.
Among the other items itinerated on his lists are: “2x bottles sparkling brine”, “teabags for hostage”, “device for scratching pedestrians”, “3x industrial-strength pears”, “non-drinking bleach”, “coffee apples” and “keys to the city of Bradford”.
One follower suggested that the notes had been left in shopping trolleys “to f*** with someone”.
“Yes. By me,” Popper wrote in reply.
Reacting to his latest list – which included items such as “hot (undercooked) turkey” and “chunks (assorted)” – one fan described the prank as “sublime”.
Actor Susannah Fielding wrote: “Thank you. First belly laugh of the day.”
“I bloody love the fact you never know what happens to them,” wrote someone else. “Thrown away unread or totally freaking people out . Brilliant.”
Friday Night Dinner can be streamed now on All 4, Brit Box, Netflix and Sky Go.
