The most recent series of Rick and Morty has been praised to the high heavens by critics (myself included), the writing being particularly tight.

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones has been met by a slightly more timid response. Yes, the spectacle has been astounding, but plot flaws and some mediocre dialogue in season seven has led to numerous critical think pieces spawning across the Internet.

Adult Swim has decided to also take a shot at the HBO series, finishing the most recent episode Rick and Morty with the kicker "The Writing on Game of Thrones [2011-2016],” the joke (if it needs explaining) being that the writing stopped being good in season six.

After the above images spread on Twitter, even warranting their own ‘Twitter Moment’, the creators of Rick and Morty clarified they had nothing to do with the bumper.

“Just FYI, we had nothing to do with the GOT adult swim bumper from last night,” co-creator Justin Roiland wrote on Twitter. “Didn't even notice it.”

The show’s official account added: “We had nothing to do with that game of thrones bumper after last night's episode. We hadn't seen it, that was all Adult Swim. We :heart-emoji: Thrones.”

Rick and Morty’s latest episode saw the titular duo take on themselves, leading to another season high for the show. Read our review here.
