Everyone's favourite pop keyboardist turned physicist turned TV presenter, Professor Brian Cox, is to present a BBC science quiz show.

The panel show, called Six Degrees of Separation, is still at the pilot stage, and will look at the unlikely connections which exist within the physical world, according to the BBC. Other guests will include Dara O Briain and Ben Miller.

The BBC said: "Using their immense knowledge, wit and imagination the six panellists will reveal that the history of science is littered with serendipitous connections and that the Universe is more unexpectedly joined up than we ever imagined."

The first show will be filmed in front of a studio audience next month but no transmission date has been set.

Former chart star Cox - once a member of the band D:Ream, who sang New Labour anthem, "Things Can Only Get Better" - has co-hosted Radio 4's The Infinite Monkey Cage, and teamed up with O Briain in the past to present BBC2's Stargazing Live.
