Schitt’s Creek has been named as the Best Comedy Series in the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards.
The Canadian sitcom beat off competition from Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dead to Me, The Good Place, Insecure, The Kominsky Method, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and What We Do in the Shadows to win the award.
As co-creator Daniel Levy accepted the prize, he said: “Our show is about love and acceptance, we need it more now than ever before. For those of you that have not registered to vote, please do now. It’s the only way we can have love and acceptance.
"Sorry to make this political, but I had to.”
The show won seven awards in a row, including for its two leads Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara.
This year’s proceedings took place virtually for the first time in the award show’s 72-year history.
Jimmy Kimmel was back on hosting duties for the third time. Click here for a full list of all the 2020 Emmy nominations and here to read our live blog.
