Season seven of ABC’s thriller Pretty Little Liars has come to an end, revealing the identity of mysterious blackmailing villain, previously known only as “A.D.”

** Spoilers for "Till Death Do Us Part” ahead **

Turns out, the long-running Internet theory regarding Troian Bellisario’s Spencer Hastings having an evil twin was absolutely… drum roll, please… correct.

Alex Drake, also played by Bellisario, finally made a formal appearance, the character having a British accent. Coming out, the character explained that she infiltrated the group of Liars after being envious of her twins friendship group.

“Out of all the insane theories we’ve jumped to, Spencer having an evil twin has to be the most insane,” jokes one of the characters.

After the episode — which was the show’s last — showrunner I. Marlene King revealed she had known for months where Pretty Little Liars was going.

The only other person to have been given the privy information beforehand was Bellisario, who took inspiration from punk rocker Sid Vicious for the character.

Both were asked whether a reunion would be possible in 10 years, with Bellisario saying: “I think a reunion would have to be pretty special, to do it justice.”

The episode is now available on Netflix in the UK.
