Piers Morgan questions care minister Helen Whatley on Covid-19 testing failures

Good Morning Britain viewers have questioned why presenter Susanna Reid isn’t self-isolating, after Piers Morgan revealed he was being tested for coronavirus.

Morgan announced on Twitter that he would be taking a leave of absence from the show until he receives the results of a Covid-19 test, after a “mild symptom” of the illness arose in recent days.

It has left many wondering why Reid is still presenting the show, and accusing Good Morning Britain of hypocrisy when it comes to their own adherence to government advice.

“Why isn’t Susanna Reid self-isolating if she’s been into contact with him? Disgusting, and hypocritical,” read one tweet.

Another asked: “Why is Susanna Reid on here when she was in the same studio as Piers on Thursday four days ago”

“Why is Susanna doing GMB this morning when the government guidelines are if you’ve been in contact with anyone suspected of having Covid-19 you are to self isolate for seven days,” read another. “Practice what you preach. Seems different rules for your staff.”

Given that Reid and Morgan have been sat at opposite ends of the GMB desk during their appearances on the show, however, it is unlikely that Reid will need to self-isolate herself.

Government advice states that workplaces that are still functioning as normal must adhere to social distancing measures, which Good Morning Britain has been. It also recommends employees regularly wash their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds and that workplaces are cleaned regularly.

Only households in which a resident exhibits symptoms must fully self-isolate as a precaution.

In March, Reid self-isolated in her home for two weeks after her son exhibited the possible coronavirus symptom of a “persistent cough”.
