From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Piers Morgan has lashed out at CNN contributor Ana Navarro-Cárdenas after she celebrated his departure from Good Morning Britain.
Morgan hosted a talk show on the network from 2011 until 2014, when it was taken off the air following poor ratings.
“If no other change comes out of the #OprahMeghanHarry interview, that it lead to @piersmorgan getting fired again from yet another job, seems like a good outcome for the benefit of humanity,” Navarro-Cárdenas tweeted last week.
Several days later, Morgan retweeted her message, stating that he “wasn’t fired by ITV” and is “still working for them”. Morgan wrote that he “wasn’t fired by CNN” either, adding: “But great to see you’re just as big a treacherous little back-stabber now as you were when I worked at CNN.”
Navarro-Cárdenas is a longtime commentator on CNN, who also regularly appears on Telemundo and The View. She has not publicly responded to Morgan’s tweet. The Independent has contacted CNN representatives for further comment.
ITV announced earlier this month that Morgan was leaving Good Morning Britain. The announcement came after Morgan stormed off the set when his co-presenter Alex Beresford confronted him about his comments on Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” the television channel said at the time in a statement. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

When Morgan’s CNN talk show ended in 2014, he told The New York Times: “It’s been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings.”
He added: “Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarising, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it. That’s run its course and [CNN President Jeff Zucker] and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me.”
