From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield stepped in after Chris Moyles made a brutal swipe at Loose Women.

The DJ was a guest on the ITV daytime show when Willoughby and her co-host Schofield checked in with the Loose Women hosts to see what was coming up on the day’s show.

On Thursday (11 May), Kaye Adams informedThis Morning viewers that they would be discussing the benefits of sleeping with tape over their mouths as Strictly host Tess Daly routinely does herself.

As Adams spoke, Frankie Bridge and Jane Moore sat on the panel with tape over their mouths, while the episode’s guest, Mo Gilligan, sat alongside them.

Moyles was unimpressed and, after Adams had finished her segment, said: “Good Lord, the guests are on point, but they’ve finally run out of material on that show, haven’t they? What are they doing sticking tape on people’s mouths?”

Willoughby and Schofield appeared surprised by Moyles’s comments, with the latter defending the choice of topic, stating: “It’s a big thing.”

Moyles clapped back: “They are making it up.”

Willoughby stepped in, telling him, “Tess Daly does it,” to which Moyles responded: “She’s absolutely crackers.”

The hosts then defeatedly thanked Moyles for being on the show before wrapping his interview up.

On Thursday (11 May), Schofield issued a statement addressing rumours that he and Willoughby have fallen out.

His statement arrived after sources claimed that the two “barely speak” off camera and that issues have “rumbled for some time”.
