Eamonn Holmes, who was co-presenting Friday’s edition of the ITV series, sent Phillip a message of support.
He said: “Nobody should be embarrassed of their sexuality and it’s fantastic that you have spoken out. There will be so many people who will be strengthened by what you have said. You know we, as Holly said, we are all here by your side.”
After hearing the news, David Walliams tweeted: “I am sending all my love to @Schofe today. I have always held him in the highest regard, ans now have nothing but respect and admiration for him. Let’s hope we are moving towards a world where no-one has to come out anymore, they can just be who they are and celebrate that.”
Fellow TV presenter Dermot O’Leary tweeted: “Sending big love to the Schofield and his family, @Schofe Stand up guy, heart of a lion. X”
Celebrity chef Jack Monroe told her followers: “Absolutely nothing but love for @Schofe this morning, what a brave incredible thing to do. You can only be what you can see, and coming out publicly will have spoken to so many people of all ages and demographics this morning. It gets better from here. I promise.”
Victoria Derbyshire praised the bravery of Schofield’s statement: “So much love for @Schofe for his open, honest, dignified statement.”
