From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Comedian Pete Davidson revealed that a fan delivered cannabis to his mother’s house during lockdown, despite his previous struggles with drug abuse.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with director Judd Apatow, host Jimmy Fallon asked Davidson how his quarantine was going, with the Saturday Night Live star replying: “I am quarantining in my mom’s basement, so crushing it!”

Following the announcement that the release of his semi-autobiographical film, The King of Staten Island, was moving from cinemas to video-on-demand due to the coronavirus pandemic, Davidson found himself receiving an unexpected gift from a fan.

“Me and Judd released this video to kind of try and get it out there that the movie’s coming out and I mentioned that I wasn’t doing drugs, that I was trying not to,” he said.

“Literally three hours later, a lady rang my doorbell with a full bag of weed and gave it to my mom and said, ‘I heard your son needs this.’

“So if you see this, please do not do that,” he continued, jokingly adding: “Because I will sell it.”

“He’s a drug dealer now,” Apatow humorously added.

The stand up comedian has been vocal about his battle with substance abuse, announcing the news on SNL last year that he was checking into rehab.

“I’m going on a little vacation,” he said. “You know, the kind of vacation where insurance pays for some of it, and they take your phone and shoelaces. And you have roommates but it still costs, like, $100,000.”

The King of Staten Island follows Scott (Davidson), a cannabis-smoking layabout in his mid-20s who struggles to know what to do with his life.
