Perez Hilton is reportedly set to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house – having secured a deal worth £150,000.

The US blogger will become a housemate when the new series returns in January next year, according to The Sun.

An insider is said to have told the newspaper that Hilton had been chosen due to his "huge influence online" as well as his antics in the real world, including multiple television appearances and famed bust-ups with celebrities.

"Perez loves Britain and the producers of CBB can’t wait for him to star in one of the most talked about shows here," the insider said.

This year the CBB house has been transformed to reflect the theme of “a twisted fairytale”, featuring magic mirrors, mysterious shadows and make-believe creatures.

Hilton, who has 5.85 million followers on Twitter and over a million likes on his Facebook page is known for his website focusing on celebrity gossip and viral news.

He has attracted controversy over the years for writing scathing stories and posting leaked photographs, songs and video footage.

Earlier this year he apologised for publishing naked pictures of Jennifer Lawrence in the wake of the celebrity 4chan leak.

He will reportedly join US singer and TV/radio host Michelle Visage and outspoken Sun columnist Katie Hopkins.

Celebrity Big Brother starts on Wednesday 7 January, 2015, on Channel 5.
