Olivia Colman will return as Sophie Chapman in the final ever series of Peep Show, David Mitchell has confirmed.

The actress has juggled her filming schedule around the third series of Broadchurch to make a comeback in the popular Channel 4 comedy.

Mitchell confirmed the news, posting a picture of a weepy Colman standing between himself and Robert Webb.

“Last day on #peepshow for Olivia Colman today. I must admit I am feeling some emotions,” he wrote.

Mitchell’s character Mark and Sophie’s on-off relationship has been an ongoing plot line in the much-loved series since Peep Show began in 2003.

The series became Channel 4’s longest-running comedy in the channel’s history in 2010, but it was decided in 2013 that the show’s ninth series will be its last.

Filming on the delayed series, which was due to air in 2014, began in early August. It is now thought the final Peep Show series will be broadcast later in 2015 or early in 2016.

Co-creator Sam Bain has already hinted at the possibility of resurrecting Mark and Jeremy in the near future after the show finishes. “We don’t plan to kill them off, so the opportunity to do more would be there if we chose to,” he told the Radio Times.
