This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

CBS has responded to suggestions made by former NCIS star Pauley Perrette that she departed the series after 15 years due to “multiple physical assaults.”

In a series of tweets written over the weekend, Perette said: “I refused to go low, that’s why I’ve never told publicly what happened. There is a ‘machine’ keeping me silent and feeding FALSE stories about me. A very rich, very powerful publicity ‘machine’. He did it.”

She continued: “I've been supporting anti-bullying programs forever. But now I KNOW because it was ME! If it's school or work, that you're required to go to? It's horrifying. I left. Multiple Physical Assaults. I REALLY get it now. Stay safe. Nothing is worth your safety. Tell someone."

CBS has since responded to Perrette's suggestions highlighting a “concern” she brought to bosses last year in a statement.

“Pauley Perrette had a terrific run on NCIS and we are all going to miss her,” it read. “Over a year ago, Pauley came to us with a workplace concern. We took the matter seriously and worked with her to find a resolution.

“We are committed to a safe work environment on all our shows.”

Perrette appeared on the long-running crime procedural as forensic specialist Abby Sciuto until her emotional final episode which aired earlier this month. She had refused to specify why she had decided to leave, telling USA Today: "That's for me to know."

She later praised the network, writing on social media: “I want to thank my studio and network CBS They have always been so good to me and always had my back.
