Normal People actor Daisy Edgar-Jones has admitted she was “disappointed” after missing out on an Emmy nomination.

The 22-year-old, who portrayed Marianne in the hit BBC Three drama series, was notably left off this year’s list of nominees.

Speaking to Grazia, she revealed, “I was obviously initially disappointed. But I’m only 22, I’ve still got to earn my stripes.”

She added, “I want to keep dreaming and working towards that.”

Her co-star in the series Paul Mescal, however, did receive a nod for his performance as Connell in the critically acclaimed adaptation of Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel.

“I’m so proud of the others. I know first-hand just how special Paul’s performance was,” she said.

Mescal has previously voiced similar praise for his co-star. In a recent Vulture interview, he said of the snub, “If it was me I would have given her all the love in that category.”

He continued, “I know there are extraordinary actresses nominated in that category, but I think Daisy’s work is just phenomenal in this.”

Besides Mescal’s own nomination, Normal People was feted with a total of four Emmy nominations including outstanding writing, directing and casting for a limited series.

The pair were recently reunited at the socially distanced TV Baftas, posing on the red carpet with a tape measure to show they were abiding by the two-metre guidelines.
