The actor, who this week was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of Cousin Greg on the HBO series, debuted the pop punk-inspired song “Antibodies (Do You Have The)” on Wednesday (29 July).
In May, the actor put out a call on his Instagram page for musicians to send their own renditions of the song based on the lyrics, which hear Braun sing: “I want a girl whose blood’s got the stuff / I want a girl who’s safe.”
The music video features some of the shared clips, along with footage of Braun performing the song on guitar with a face mask and hand sanitiser.
“If you come within six feet, it’s mask on, mask on, mask on, mask on,” he sings. “But if you got antibodies, it’s pants off, pants off, pants off, pants off.”
Explaining the song’s meaning, he told Rolling Stone: “My friends are a couple and they’ve been together for years, but I was back there sort of being like, ‘Man, I wish I had somebody right now to go through this with.’
“This girl and I were talking and we were like, ‘Maybe we should go meet up and go for a walk with bandanas on.’ So I went on this quarantine date; it sort of felt secret because I didn’t want my friends to know.”
Braun’s Emmy nomination is one of 10 earned by Succession, which is up for Best Drama Series.
Braun will face off against his fellow Succession actor Kieran Culkin in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, with Culkin, who plays Roman, joking that he’d punch his co-star “in the balls” if he beat him to the Emmy.
