New Bob the Builder: Twitter reacts to character's modernised makeover
Fans claim cartoon revamp has 'ruined their childhood'
If you were a Noughties child (or parent) you're probably well-acquainted with Bob the Builder.
The television programme that followed the adventures of building contractor Bob, his colleague Wendy and their gang of human-like work vehicles was a CBBC favourite between 1998 and 2012.
Now Bob is set to make a come-back - but his loyal fans aren't too happy about the news.
US toy maker Mattel has revamped the cartoon character for a new generation of viewers after acquiring HIT Entertainment, which also owns the pre-school brands Thomas and Friends and Fireman Sam.
The new series claims to retain "the emotional warmth that has always given Bob the Builder a firm place in the hearts of young viewers".
However, judging by the reaction on social media, it might be time to give Bob's catchphrase a makeover too.
"Can we fix it?" Um, no, apparently...
The new series will see Harry Potter actor Lee Ingleby take over from Neil Morrissey to voice Bob, while Downton Abbey actress Joanne Froggatt will play Wendy.
Viewers will see a big difference on screen as the characters will be computer-generated for the new series rather than created using stop-motion animation. Bob also has a new home in the bustling metropolis of Spring City, and will use a computer for his building designs, but he will still be seen working at his yard in the village of Fixham.
The new series is set to air in 2015.
