Never mind the egg incident: Britain's Got Talent runners-up Richard and Adam storm UK album charts

Richard & Adam thought their dreams of becoming recording artists were over when a member of the orchestra stormed the stage during their performance in Britain’s Got Talent’s live final and pelted judge Simon Cowell with a carton of eggs.

But it looks like the Johnson brothers from Holywell, North Wales may knock Jahmene Douglas’ Love Never Fails off the top of the album charts with their debut album, The Impossible Dream, according to today’s midweek Official Chart Update.

The brothers came third in Simon Cowell's ITV talent show in June, beaten by Hungarian shadow dance troupe Attraction. “We can’t believe how well the album’s doing,” Adam said. “We’re absolutely overwhelmed with all the support, so thank you to each and every one of you for making our dreams come true.”

Richard said: “Everyone I’m sure saw our final performance, which was interrupted by an unfortunate case of some egg throwing,”

“But we’re so happy now to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Simon Cowell gave us some wise words after the show. He said ‘Just keep working hard, doing what you’re doing, and I’m sure everything will work out really well for you.’ His wise words have really come true, and we just hope we can continue on the path we’re on.”

Fellow TV talent show alumni Jahmene Douglas took the top spot in the charts last Sunday with his debut, despite failing to win last year's X Factor.

David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat climbs five places to number three in the midweek charts; while Passenger remains a firm position at number four with All The Little Lights.

In the singles charts Avicii looks set to hang onto the number one spot for a third consecutive week with "Wake Me Up". The 23-year-old superstar Swedish DJ and producer's track clocked up nearly 267,000 sales of the single during its first week, making it the fastest-selling track of the year.

That figure had risen to 421,000 and according to Official Charts Company predictions, the track will smash though the half a million copies sales barrier before the end of this week.

“Being the fastest-selling record [of 2013] is obviously a huge deal to me,” Avicii told Jameela Jamil on Sunday’s Official Chart Show on BBC Radio 1. “I never thought being on the Official Chart was an option. Dance music has its own things; we have our own charts and lists. So just being Number 1 is insane!”

John Newman’s former chart topper, "Love Me Again", is at number two. While Robin Thicke’s million-selling single "Blurred Lines" FT TI and Pharrell Williams holds firm at number three, ahead of One Direction’s "Best Song Ever" at number four.

Eliza Doolittle is on course for this week’s highest new entry with "Big When I Was Little", which looks set to debut at number 11.
