Details regarding season four of Narcos remain scarce minus rumours the Juárez Cartel — the head of which made a fleeting appearance in the show's third season — may be the focus.

However, Netflix has since announced two very exciting additions to the cast: End Of Watch and Ant Man actor Michael Peña, along with Diego Luna, best known for Rogue One.

Production reportedly started recently in Mexico City, Mexico, where the show will take place. A release date has not been announced but the show is expected to return next year.

Earlier this year, a location scout for Narcos — Carlos Muñoz Porta — was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds near San Bartolo Actopan, an area said to have some of Mexico's highest murder rates.

It remains unclear what the motive behind the murder was but the incident led to Pedro Pascal, the series’ leading actor, to state the show would have end if the cast and crew's safety couldn't be guaranteed.

The first two seasons focused on drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and — while creators originally designed to just focus on him — they decided to name the show Narcos so the series could outlive Esboar's death.
