This year's hotly anticipated John Lewis Christmas advertisement has been unveiled - and it's a two-minute short directed by French filmmaker Michel Gondry.

The retailer's latest festive ad, featuring a creature known as Moz the Monster, is accompanied by a Beatles cover track performed by Elbow.

While Gondry has directed numerous features since 2001, his most notable work was the genre-bending 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo and Elijah Wood.

Gondry won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay with the film enduring as something of a modern cult classic with many critics hailing it as one of the greatest films of the century so far.

His other credits include The Science of Sleep (2006), Be Kind Rewind (2008) and The Green Hornet (2011) which served as his Hollywood debut starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz.

The irreverent director's most recent film was 2015 comedy Microbe & Gasoline starring Amélie lead Audrey Tatou.

Gondry has previous directing adverts having shot commercials for Levis Drugstore, Gap, Nike and Apple. He has also directed videos for Björk, Daft Punk and Metronomy.
