From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Michael McIntyre is taking the well-trodden path from comedian to talk show host, with the functionally-named The Michael McIntyre Chat Show set to premiere on BBC One in the spring.

The stand-up comic will interview three famous guests each episode, a formula that has worked for soon-to-be rivals Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross.

McIntyre has risen to become one of the nation’s most popular comedians in recent years and is expected to "bring his unique and hugely popular brand of comedy" to the six-part series.

"From my very first conversation I remember thinking, 'This should be televised!'" he joked. "Well, now the British Broadcasting Corporation has made my dream a reality.

"I am overwhelmingly excited about meeting and having fun with my favourite celebrated people on The Michael McIntyre Chat Show."

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore added: "I'm thrilled he will be bringing his own unique flavour to a brand new chatshow for BBC One," describing him as "one of the country's leading comedians."

The Michael McIntyre Chat Show is expected to debut in the spring.
