Meghan McCain is facing criticism after claiming that Dr Anthony Fauci doesn’t “understand science”.

McCain made the comments on Monday’s episode on The View, which expressing her frustration about the coronavirus vaccine rollout.

Fauci, the leading expert on infectious disease in the US, is also President Joe Biden’s chief medical advisor on Covid-19.

“The fact that I, Meghan McCain, co-host of The View, don’t know when or how I will be able to get a vaccine because the rollout for my age range and my health is so nebulous – I have no idea when and how I can get it,” McCain said.

“I want to get it. If you call me at 3 o’clock in the morning, I will go any place at any time to get it. I want to be responsible and obviously wait my turn, but this rollout has been a disaster.”

McCain added she “[understands] President Trump can take much of the blame”, adding: “But now we’re in the Biden administration. I for one would like something to look forward to and to hope for.”

She described herself as “over Dr Fauci”, stating: “I think we need to have more people giving more opinions. Honestly, quite frankly, I think the Biden administration should remove him and put someone else in place that maybe does understand science or can talk to other countries.”

Her comments were met with criticism and disbelief on social media.

Comedian Blaire Erskine was among those who reacted to McCain’s segment, tweeting: “Meghan McCain really just said ‘The fact that I, Meghan McCain, COHOST OF THE VIEW, don’t know when or how I will be able to get a vaccine.’ Girl.”

Writer Parker Molloy described the clip as having “Big walking into the pharmacy and yelling ‘DON'T YOU KNOW WHO MY FATHER IS?’ energy.”

A Twitter user identified as Leia deemed McCain to be “white privilege personified”.
