MasterChef 'dog poo biscuit' impresses nobody but Gregg Wallace
Mark's caramel and chocolate ganache ended up looking rather too much like dog excrement

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. When it comes to MasterChef, the clue is in the name. If you want to win, you’ve got to produce some pretty, well, masterful cooking.
So when one contestant served up a dessert involving some decidedly dubious chocolate ganache, it wasn’t long before viewers began mercilessly mocking the “dog poo biscuit”.
Software consultant Mark had been doing well in Thursday night’s show until he was asked to cook for three guest judges to secure his place in the competition. His spaghetti alle vongole disappointed, but it was the peanut butter cookie topped with ganache that really raised eyebrows.
“Thoughts: don’t try to serve anything that look like a poo. It never works,” wrote one Twitter user, while another joked that he had “lost the plop”.
Unfortunately, guest judges Peter Bayless, Thomasina Miers and Steven Wallis agreed with viewers, commenting on the unappetising look of the dish. “My first instinct is I’m not sure I really want to eat that,” Thomasina said, with Steven adding that the “ganache is detracting”.
Regular, pudding-loving judge Gregg Wallace was much more appreciative of the cookie, gobbling it down and declaring it “lovely”. Sadly for Mark, Wallace’s last-minute support was not enough to save him, and he left the competition.
