From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In a strange twist of festive fate a duo of Mark Wrights could be crowned the winners of two of the UK’s favourite TV shows this weekend.

That’s right, both the finals of Strictly Come Dancing and The Apprentice feature a hopeful Mark Wright – one a reality TV star, the other a digital marketing sales manager.

In Strictly on Saturday night, The Only Way is Essex star will be up against TV presenter Caroline Flack, Blue singer Simon Webbe and Saturdays band member Frankie Bridge, as they take to the floor in the hope of securing the glitter ball trophy.

And in the Apprentice on Sunday, the Australian Wright will go head-to-head with Bianca Miller as they battle to secure Lord Sugar’s £250,000 investment.

However, it seems unlikely that there will be two victorious Wrights come Monday.

It’s a close call on the Apprentice, but Miller appears to be leading the way in online opinion polls.

Meanwhile on Strictly, Flack is the favourite, with Bridge next in line for the trophy, according to the most recent bets. Webbe is next and Wright the ranked outsider.

William Hill said it has received bets of up to £2,000 on Flack which had put her price way out in front at 8/13. Bridge is at 2/1, Webbe is 9/1 and Wright is 12/1 outsider.
