From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The charity Missing People released an appeal for the 22-year-old to get in touch amid claims she went missing from her home town of Haringey, London on 31 July, but her boyfriend posted Brandon Mehmed on Instagram to say that “she is safe and well”.
The appeal is officially closed.
Joyce, who is best known for posting beauty videos onto YouTube, will post a video explaining the reason behind her mysterious disappearance, according to Mehmed.
In 2016, fans were left convinced that she had signalled for help during a video titled “DATE OUTFIT IDEAS” after seemingly whispering “help me”. It also seemed like her arms were covered in bruises.
Following the release of the video, viewers began to analyse it for clues believing her to frightened of someone behind the camera.
It caused such a panic that Enfield Police visited her and assured fans that she was “safe and well”.
Joyce caused a stir weeks later after claiming she had discovered “secrets” about life after death, telling her followers: “I know that I can still contact humans during the afterlife.”
She explained to her fans that she wanted to create a shrine where she could draw, meditate and “find... extreme spiritual help and guidance”.
