With Daredevil and Jessica Jones setting a much darker tone in comparison to the films, it should come as no surprise that the screenwriter is hoping the upcoming Mark Colter-starring series follows in The Wire's footsteps.
“It’s very sophisticated,” Cheo Hodari Coker told Collider. “I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking.
“We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us. We have a lot of different musical appearances, but at the same time, we’ve got the Marvel action. We’ve got drama.
“I would like this to be, I mean, I know this is heavy but, The Wire of Marvel television, because we really deal with a lot of different issues.”
Luke Cage played a significant role in Jessica Jones, yet it is unknown whether Krysten Ritter will reprise her role in Luke Cage.
At some stage in the future, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will work together to defeat evil Avengers-style in a mini-series titled The Defenders. At a recent conference, Daredevil actor Charlie Cox announced when the series will start filming.
Luke cage will be available on Netflix 30 September.
