From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The first major reveals of this year's San Diego Comic-Con have arrived, all in thanks to Marvel and Netflix who showed teasers for Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Earlier this year, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage debuted in Jessica Jones, lining the superhero up for his own solo-series, set for release 30 September.
In the new teaser, Colter’s character rips a door off a car, ploughs through street-level bad guys in Harlem, and gets shot at by a machine gun, all while Ol' Dirty Bastard’s "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" blasts out. (It’s hard to imagine a villain who will be able to defeat the man with unbreakable skin, AKA Power Man.)

There was also the surprising release of the first teaser for Iron Fist, starring the controversially cast Finn Jones as Danny Rand.
In the 30-second clip, we get a glimpse at the character’s origin story; a young boy who loses his family but ends up living in the Himalayas with the mystical monks of K’un-Lun.
Eventually, Rand ends up in Hell’s Kitchen, where eventual Defenders Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist all reside.
Netflix and Marvel intend on all four characters eventually starring in a series together, titled The Defenders: an Avengers-style team-up of all the heroes.
Also announced at Comic-Con was Daredevil season three, while a new action figure may have revealed a massive spoiler for DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad.
