From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Eliminated Love Island contestant Frankie Foster has responded to the news that Samira Mighty has quit the series to be with him.
The 22-year-old was left heartbroken after Foster received the lowest votes and was dumped from the villa.
Following the announcement, Foster posted a screen grab of the news onto Instagram adding a heart emoji next to a photo of her. He later added that he “couldn't wait to see her.”
Tonight's episode (13 July) sees the former West End performer tell Dani Dyer: “We’ve been here from the start and I finally got what I wanted and now I feel like I’m back at square one but worst. It’s unfinished business.”
She later tells Dani, Ellie and Megan she is leaving the villa, saying: “So my lovely beautiful girls, you guys know that I’ve had a really tough couple of days here recently and I’ve been umming and ahhing about leaving.“I’ve not had any connection in here with anyone and I had a little taste of that with Frankie and it’s gone abruptly and I think I’d always be thinking ‘What if.’
“I woke up this morning and I thought, it’s my time to go… I have to do this for me, I’ve never felt so strong.”
The others were reportedly upset by the decision but supported their friend, Megan saying: ”You seem happier already having made your mind up. You seem like the old Samira back again.”
Samira has been part of the fourth series since day one, initially coupling with Doctor Alex before moving onto Sam and then Frankie. Revealing the news of her departure to the other housemates, she once again cites needing to get “closure on the Frankie situation” but adds: “I’m really happy that I’m doing this and I feel really strong. I love all of you so much. You are all so amazing.”
Love Island continues tonight on ITV2 at 9p
