From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Although ridiculed on social media over the political commentary (she asked of Brexit: “So does that mean we won’t have any trees?”) Hughes has since sought to educate herself on the issue dividing a nation.
Acting as her guide has been Nigel Farage, the former UKIP leader, the pair deciding to partake in a joint interview on This Morning.
Farage began by defending Hughes, explaining how the nation has been unfairly cruel and acknowledging that the majority of people probably do not fully understand Brexit.
Asked whether she knows more about the issue now, Hughes said: “I think I just know the basics, I know we’re leaving the EU.”
Questioned further about whether she would vote leave or remain, the former reality TV show contestant responded: “I can’t really make a comment, I still need to know a lot more about it. I know a lot more about it, and that’s a start.”
Before the interview finished, there was time for one last question: who will win Love Island? “Jack and Dani,” Hughes responded, putting her hopes behind the current favourites.
Hughes and Farage were spotted by photographers discussing Brexit at a London pub earlier this week, Farage telling The Sun: “First, everyone is being really unfair on Hayley saying she’s stupid when very few people understand the EU. And second, I’ve spent my whole life on this and even I don’t have a clue what Theresa May is doing!”
Meanwhile, Love Island continues on ITV2, the series concluding this coming Monday (30 July).
