From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. One of this year's most talked-about Love Island moments has been cleared up.

Former contestant Georgia Steel, who quit the show alongside partner Sam Bird last week, got caught up in a controversial situation following her date with Jack Fowler in which she attempted to kiss him on the lips twice despite him being coupled up with her friend Laura Anderson at the time.

Upon the pair's return to the villa, Georgia proceeded to tell Laura that Jack had kissed her causing a huge argument - and Georgia has finally addressed the situation after watching the clip.

“That is not the way I remembered it, I swear to God,” she told Aftersun host Caroline Flack on Sunday (22 July).

Things got awkward when fellow dumped contestant Charlie urged Georgia to apologise to his girlfriend Ellie with whom she came to blows over the situation weeks ago. Georgia ignored his suggestion, stating: “I feel like it didn't go the way I remembered because I'm honest and I would have said it if had I done. I would have liked to see someone in my position handle it in a different way.”

Ellie watched on smirking in the audience, clearly happy for Georgia's disloyalty to have been proven.

Not that any of this matters considering Laura and Jack have both found new partners in the villa in the form of Paul and another contestant named Laura.

Love Island continues on ITV2 nightly at 9pm.
