From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It seems Love Island is now in the midst of making amends following controversy over Dani's treatment on the show.
She's set to briefly leave the villa to sit down with Jack's ex, Ellie, for a spot of afternoon tea, presenter Andi Peters revealed on Lorraine - though whether things will remain civil is an entirely different question.
"She can f*ck off. I ain't talking to her. I ain't f*cking talking to her," Dani was heard to whisper when Ellie first stepped foot into the main villa. Can Ellie convince Dani she's not here to win Jack back?
Last week saw the introduction of twelve new contestants, six girls of whom were placed into the Casa Amor villa where the existing boys had been moved in a big shake-up. The move saw Dani and Georgia - both of whom were happily coupled up - struck with nerves at the thought of their respective partner meeting a new girl while away.
Unbeknownst to Dani, one of the girls was Jack's ex-girlfriend Ellie whom he'd been messaging days before joining the show. However, Monday night saw Dani learn of her presence in a compilation of clips taken from the previous three episodes which showed Jack's reaction to seeing her for the first time.
Dani broke down in tears with many viewers slamming the twist as “cruel” - and it's now amassed over 600 complaints to Ofcom.
Speaking on companion discussion show Aftersun following last night's episode, presenter Caroline Flack supported producers' decision to show Dani the clip. "Why did they have to show her that footage?" asked Matt Edmondson to which Flack immediately defended the decision.
"Because we have to test relationships - that's what we do," she said.
