From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

During the episode, which saw the original boys in the main villa with the new girls, and the original girls in Casa Amor with a new set of lads, Curtis – who has been coupled up with Amy since day two of the show – told Jourdan that, given the chance, he would recouple with her.
Having only known him for a matter of days, and with her eyes set on Danny Williams instead, Jourdan gently told Curtis she wasn’t interested.
Meanwhile, in excruciating scenes, Amy was telling Molly-Mae Hague that Curtis was her “best friend and boyfriend rolled into one” and that she had even fallen in love with him.
Then came the recoupling, where Curtis made the following speech: “Amy and I haven’t had any tests or bumps in the road at the moment. Things were going fantastic until a couple days ago.
“Basically, a young lady walked into the villa and made me realise a lot of things. Over the past four days, I’ve found out more about myself and my feelings than ever before.
“It made me realise I had been lying to myself. Most of all, I had been lying to Amy, and that’s not a good thing.
“I just hope everything can be sorted out and this will even make us stronger than ever before, or this will break us.”
Unaware of Curtis’s admission, Amy then entered the main villa and made a very different statement: “I’ve literally thought about him every minute of every day for the last four days, I’ve missed him so much.”

The Amy camp was quick to slam Curtis on Twitter and stick up for Amy in tweets which have since been deleted.
One of the tweets was an insincere: “What a shame Curtis got pied” with a meme of Beyonce flicking her hair.
Another read: “Oh Amy, girl. YOU ARE NO ONES SECOND CHOICE!”
Amy wasn’t the only girl let down on Love Island in Tuesday night’s episode, with Amber Gill being pied off by Michael Griffiths for new bombshell Joanna Chimonides, the fall-out of which will air in Wednesday night’s show.
Love Island airs at 9pm on ITV2
