A contestant on the Netflix dating show Love is Blind has spoken of her regret after she gave her dog wine, in a moment that went viral on the internet.

In the clip, Jessica leans down and lets her dog guzzle wine out of her own glass, whispering: "She loves wine.”

A social media backlash ensued, with many criticising Jessica for allowing her pet to consume the alcohol because grapes and wine are toxic for dogs.

In a new interview, Jessica said: “I definitely have never done that before. I won’t do that again.”

“I love my dog more than anything and that was not something I would ever recommend anyone to do,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “I think I was just really uncomfortable. I don’t even remember doing it. I don’t know why I did that but it was definitely unnecessary for sure.”

She also spoke about her regrets over her own drinking on the series. “I think there’s a reason that there’s sometimes alcohol around during these reality shows,” she said. “Sometimes you loosen up and these moments can kind of come out. I really wish that I would have been better about the drinking for me. I was really uncomfortable and so I had a few moments where I overdrank…"

Revealing the abuse she has received online, Jessica added: “I was on a plane when a lot of people started watching it. I landed and got some really negative comments on Instagram and it was just a shock.

“It was the first time I had really ever experienced anything like that. Initially, I had a lot of negativity and hatred. But honestly it’s gotten a bit better as of late… I can separate it a little bit. It’s okay. I totally understand why there are some of those comments out there.”

Love is Blind is a hybrid of a dating show and a scientific experiment, in which contestants are placed in “pods” and required to make conversation with potential life partners they cannot see. They are released from the pods once marriage is proposed and accepted.

It is currently airing on Netflix.
