Andrea McLean explains reason for quitting Loose Women

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Loose Women star Andrea McLean returned to host the series after quitting on-air during Monday’s broadcast.

McLean was in tears as she announced her decision to leave the popular topical chat series after Christmas, having served as panel host for 13 years.

Ruth Langsford stepped in to replace her for Tuesday’s episode of Loose Women, although McLean returned for this morning’s episode, alongside co-hosts Janet Street Porter, Judi Love and Stacey Solomon, on Wednesday 3 December.

McLean explained that she wished to help support more women and wanted to venture into a new career path.

Her website revealed that she will be establishing a membership service to help support women struggling with mental health and self-confidence issues.

Speaking on Monday’s Loose Women,  McLean also brought her co-hosts to tears with her emotional announcement.

“I want to be brave, all the incredible feedback I've had from my book and the support I was able to give, I want to bring it to life.

“It was a really big decision to jump to see if I fall or if I fly. And I just knew I would never know if I never tried. So I am saying goodbye to Loose Women.”

Loose Women continues to air weekdays on ITV at 12:30pm.
