One show to fall victim to the untimely cancellation is Looking, HBO's first "gay show" from Weekend director Andrew Haigh that's been pulled from the schedules due to poor ratings.

Starring Jonathan Groff, Frankie J. Alvarez and Russell Tovey, the series focused on a group of gay friends living in San Francisco.

Taking the edge off of that sour news was the announcement that Looking is to get a wrap-up feature-length TV film - a trailer for which has just been released.

All cast members are returning for the two-hour long special which will serve as the series' swan song. Following the news of its axe, fans created a petition in an attempt to save the show with many heralding it a celebration of the gay community - and the first to focus on the personal and professional lives of gay men since 2005's Queer as Folk.

Looking, which premiered in January 2014, aired its season two finale in March 2015. Its cancellation was announced exactly a year later.

Series creator Haigh recently directed Charlotte Rampling to an oscar nomination in drama 45 Years.

Looking: the movie will air in the US on 23 July with Sky Atlantic's airdate expected soon after.
