From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

HBO's Girls is coming to an end.

Variety confirms the show will wrap up after its 6th season; with its 5th set to premiere on HBO in February. HBO have declined to comment, though it's believed an official statement will come off the back of the upcoming Television Critics Association press tour.

Indeed, Dunham's clarified in the past she's keen to prevent the series from dragging out, “I think America has a tendency to push shows past their due dates,” she told Variety. “I like the British model – in and out.”

Kind of them to give us all a heads up so we can emotionally prepare ourselves for a world in which we can no longer utilise Hannah Horvath's antics to help us feel better about our own disgraceful lives. Though the show's never been a massive hit in terms of viewing numbers, it's accumulated a dedicated fanbase and a whole host of accolades and critical praise.

Even in its first season, the show racked up Emmy nominations for outstanding comedy, along with lead comedy actress, director, and writer for Dunham. The series then won best comedy and comedy actress at the Golden Globes in 2013; with a string of nominations for both Dunham and Adam Driver landing in further years.

Season 6 will presumably tie any loose ends, specifically when it comes to everyone's favourite toxic relationship. Though Hannah and Adam had long broken up by the end of the season 4 finale, it likely won't be the last time their paths intermingle. Calling into the Elvis Duran radio show, Dunham mentioned; "Never say never, but that is the way we're thinking about it right now and we're starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women."

She continued, ""It's really exciting. I started working on this show when I was 23, and I'm going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world."

The news isn't entirely surprising, admittedly. Central cast member Adam Driver is now officially "too famous" post-Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Lena Dunham's been busy promoting her bestselling memoirs Not That Kind of Girl. Considering she initially launched herself as a cinematic force with her delightfully angsty debut, Tiny Furniture, it'll be interesting to see if she returns to the big screen with her next project.

That said, Dunham's currently working with HBO on a new pilot entitled Max; set in the magazine world of the 1960s, the show will chart the evolution of the second-wave feminism movement through the eyes of one enterprising writer.

Where will we turn to now for our relatable twenty-something metropolitan experiences? Broad City? Yeah, probably Broad City.
