During the video interview, the show’s presenters asked Perry if she could deliver iconic lines from British soaps.
The Grammy-nominated artist surprised viewers with her impersonation of EastEnders’s Peggy Mitchell. After being asked to recite the former Queen Vic landlady’s famous catchphrase, Perry shouted: “Get out of my pub!”
Her impersonation of the popular character received praise from EastEnders cast member Lorraine Stanley, who plays Karen Taylor in the BBC soap opera.
Stanley later told The One Show presenters: “You know what? I was really impressed, serious. I’ll give her the job if she gives me a music career and a million followers!”
Viewers also voiced their surprise on social media. Television critic Scott Bryan shared a clip of the impression with his 44,000 followers on Twitter.
Bryan accompanied his post the caption: “Truly bizarre scenes on The One Show just now where Katy Perry is encouraged to shout 'GET OUT OF MY PUB' for some reason."
The official Twitter for The One Show praised Perry’s impression: “Stop everything! @KatyPerry just smashed this iconic @bbceastenders line!”
One Twitter user commented on the bizarre nature of the video, writing: “2020 has taken some turns but this I did not expect.”
Another said, “I cannot believe I just witnessed with my own eyes Katy Perry do a Peggy Mitchell impression saying “get out my pub” lives on my tv we love to see it.”
The singer had joined BBC’s The One Show to promote her new album Smile.
