Former television presenter John Leslie has reportedly been charged with sexually assaulting a woman at an Edinburgh nightclub.

The 52-year-old, best known for presenting the show Blue Peter between 1989 and 1994, allegedly put his hand up a 26-year-old woman’s skirt earlier this year.

The incident is said to have taken place at the city’s popular Atik nightclub which was reopening following a £450,000 redevelopment.

Leslie – who also presented Wheel of Fortune during the late 90s but has since moved into property development – was first named by The Sun.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh have charged a 52-year-old man following a report that a 26-year-old woman was the victim of a sexual assault at a nightclub in the Tollcross area on Sunday 25 June”.

A spokesperson for Scotland’s Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report concerning a 52-year-old male, in connection with an alleged incident in Edinburgh on 25 June 2017. The report is currently under consideration.”
