The entertainer announced he was cancelling a date of his Fabulous Christmas Tour, which was due to kick off at the Bristol Hippodrome on Saturday (30 November).
Barrowman, who starred in Doctor Who and Torchwood, said it’s “impossible to sing and move” following the accident and that doctors “advised” him to cancel the shows.
It’s unknown what caused the actor’s injury, but he revealed on Twitter that he suffered a "C5/6 facet joint injury" and will receive "intraspinal injections" as treatment.
If the cartilage inside the facet joint breaks down, it becomes inflamed and triggers pain signals in nearby nerve endings.
Next week’s performances are currently still scheduled, with tonight’s performance in Glasgow (1 December) postponed to Tuesday (3 December).
Barrowman, who said he was "devastated" to cancel the shows, followed up the news with a message that said: ”I feel I am letting everyone down, but it’s simply not possible for me to do the show in my current condition.”

Those who had tickets for last night’s performance can even receive a refund of transfer to the Oxford show on 14 December.
Barrowman is scheduled to play London’s Eventim Apollo on 5 December. He appeared on last year’s series of I’m a Celebrity... Get me Out of Here!, finishing in third place.
