Jimmy Kimmel says Trump will learn ‘what it feels like to be evicted during a pandemic’

Jimmy Kimmel says Donald Trump may soon learn what it’s like “to be evicted from your home in the middle of a pandemic”. 

The late-night host dedicated his opening monologue on Thursday to the president’s refusal to admit defeat in the 2020 presidential election. Joe Biden has secured 290 electoral college votes and is now the president-elect.

Kimmel referred to the current situation in the White House as “squattergate”, remarking: “One reason that Trump’s advisors are so worried he might not be able to win is because he lost, and those don’t go together.”

“There’s no room for pessimism in the White House,” he added. “Racism, sexism, yes. But no pessimism.”

He referenced reports that Trump has been dejected in light of the election results (a recent New York Times article says the president’s mood is “often bleak”).

“Soon, he’s going to understand what it feels like to be evicted from your home in the middle of a pandemic,” Kimmel added.

The quip was a reference to the financial difficulties experienced by many during the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to widespread calls for tenant protection measures, as well as Trump’s hypothetical refusal to leave the White House in January.

Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the Biden campaign has previously said that “the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House.”
