Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Jennifer Aniston has joined the legions of celebrities donating money towards hurricane relief in the US, the former Friends actor offering $1 million.

The money will be split in half between the Ricky Martin Foundation for Puerto Rico and the American Red Cross, offering relief to those affected by Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Harvey.

Martin — a famous Puerto Rican singer turned activist — thanked Anniston publicly on Twitter, writing: “Jennifer Aniston U R amazing Thanx 4 donating $500k for our #PuertoRico relief fund. We will never forget. U R saving lives Jenn #Allin4PR”

Days earlier, Martin had appeared on The Ellen Show, encouraging people to donate to the non-profit organisation.

A source close to Anniston told E! News: "She is concerned that so much is still needed to be done for the victims of these recent hurricanes, especially Puerto Rico where there is still no power to most of the island. She hopes this inspires others to give what they can.”

Martin has so far managed to raise upwards of $3 million to help Puerto Rico, benefactors including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres and Alec Baldwin.
