From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

As Michael Scott (Steve Carell) left for Colorado to live with Holly, it was Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) who accompanied him to the airport to give her final farewell.
With Michael having already removed his mic for the last time ("This is gonna feel so good getting this thing off my chest. That's what she said," is his predictable response), we never hear those last few words shared between coworkers.
However, Jenna Fischer is no Bill Murray: while the latter refuses to divulge what he whispered to Scarlett Johansson at the end of Sofia Coppola's fractured romance, Fischer did finally share a few details of what was said during that moment.
"That was me talking to Steve. I told him all the ways I was going to miss him when he left our show. Those were real tears and a real goodbye," Fischer said in an Instagram Live video (via Mashable). "That was a really emotional scene."
She also shared her favourite episode of the series, which happens to be a choice shared by many: "I just watched 'Branch Wars' from Season 4 and I was kind of loving it. But my ultimate favorite is 'Dinner Party.'"
