From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Former FBI director James B. Comey will testify under oath before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday 8 June, a highly-anticipated political event which could have little impact, or could just be the catalyst for the beginning of Donald Trump's impeachment.
Mr Comey's testimony is set to begin at 10am in Washington DC (3pm in the UK), will be made public and should be very easy to watch.
The Independent will be carrying it live on our Facebook page, with live streams also expected on YouTube.
As for televised coverage, ABC, CBS have already confirmed they will break up their daytime programming to bring Americans the testimony live, anchored by George Stephanopoulos and Charlie Rose respectively.
Update: Also NBC, ABC, PBS and Fox, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, CSPAN and CNBC. Many without commercials.
In the UK, BBC News and BBC Parliament will broadcast the hearing, with coverage starting at 3pm.
Mr Comey's testimony follows a meeting with newly appointed special counsel for the Russia investigation and former FBI colleague Robert Mueller, who may have asked Mr Comey not to discuss matters classified and pertinent to his investigation.
Nevertheless, Mr Comey will likely be pressed by the committee on whether President Trump asked him to pledge loyalty and to end the probe into Michael Flynn. There will also be questions about the studious memos of Trump interactions he reportedly kept, which could lead to further revelations.
The US Dollar has hit a seven-month low ahead of the testimony.
