The actor, who stars as Princess Margaret – Prince Harry‘s great aunt – in the third series of The Crown, was asked about her views on the couple while attending the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.
“The world is their oyster and it will be interesting to see what they do,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
“Now they are masters of their own destiny and good luck to them.”
Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles in the new series, added: “I imagine they could probably do anything. I’m sure they are very talented and can go off and do whatever they want. I hope so.”
The cast of The Crown was nominated for Best Ensemble in a TV Drama at this year’s event.
Bonham Carter said of the show’s cast: “We are a proper family, all supportive and there is no competition really. There is not one diva. Our queen (Olivia Colman), is hilarious... everyone is brilliantly fun.”
Suzanne Mackie, an executive producer on the drama, recently said that the hit show may “never” tackle the royal family in the present day.
Mackie was responding to fan speculation over how the show would handle the controversy surrounding Harry and Meghan‘s decision to “step back” as senior royals.
“To be honest, whatever the life of The Crown is after where we are now, I doubt we’ll ever go as far as the present day,” she said.
