From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Paul Hollywood has suggested that filming for The Great British Bake Off may not be hugely delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Channel 4 cookery show normally returns to our screens in August and runs through the autumn, but with lockdown bringing production on TV shows across the world to a halt, fans had worried whether Bake Off would still go ahead.

However, speaking to the Radio Times, Hollywood attempted to keep hopes alive by speculating that the new series wasn’t a total write off just yet.

“If we can get started, we could turn around the programme pretty quickly and still have it out in late summer or early autumn,’ he said, adding that the plausibility of the show going ahead would be dependent on “when the lockdown is lifted”.

The Great British Bake Off is due to return in 2020 for its 11th series and fourth outing on Channel 4, which will also mark Matt Lucas’ debut as a presenter.

The Little Britain comedian will appear alongside Noel Fielding as the show’s co-host, replacing Sandi Toksvig while Hollywood and Prue Leith return as judges.
